Our Story
Located opposite the Campbell River Hospital, Hillside Medical Centre has been a pillar of primary care in Campbell River for over 30 years. Founded out of the collaboration of Dr. P Friderichs, Dr. Pocock, Dr. Arnold, Dr. McFadden and Dr. Ness, we strive to continue their outstanding legacy.

Dr. Jordyn Vanderveen, MD CCFP
Family Physician
I am a full-service family physician doing clinic, hospital, LTC and maternity care in Campbell River since 2016. I am also Co-Chair of the Campbell River & District Division of Family Practice, advocating for physician and patient resources in Campbell River and the surrounding district. My husband, John, and I are the proud parents of four young girls and enjoy cycling and exploring our beautiful Island.
Dr. Simon Friderichs, MBChB CCFP
Family Physician
I am a family physician providing clinic and hospitalist care. I grew up in Campbell River, completing my medical training in Edinburgh, Scotland and Victoria. I am an active member of our local Search and Rescue and Ski Doctor at Mt. Washington. In 2019 I replaced my father Dr. Peter Friderichs after 25+ years of care and I am proud to be continuing as the second generation. I am a family physician providing clinic,
hospital inpatient and emergency care. I am also active in disaster and emergency preparedness and involved in helicopter rescue operations in support of local search and rescue programs. My wife and I enjoy spending time recreating in the outdoors on Vancouver Island with our 3 young sons.

After completing medical school at the University of British Columbia in Victoria, I was fortunate enough to complete my residency training here in Campbell River, graduating in 2023. My husband Matt and I are thrilled to call the Island home, where we love spending time with family, dancing, reading great books and exploring the beautiful outdoors. I am a full-service family physician providing care in clinic and in hospital, as well as maternity care and addictions care.

I have lived and worked in Campbell River since 2016, when I moved here from the Prairies to complete my residency training. I opened my practice in 2018, and continue to provide care in hospital, family practice clinic and long-term-care. My husband, sons and I enjoy all the many offerings of the Island – namely being outdoors. We love to be at the beach, and I am slowly growing my garden more and more each summer. I am grateful to be a part of this clinic team, and look forward to continuing to provide quality care to my patients.

Having grown up on Vancouver Island, I’m grateful to be able to live and practice close to home. I provide care in clinic, the hospital, and the emergency department. I enjoy spending my time exploring the Island with my partner, dog, and family.
Dr. Brianna Crighton MD, CCFP
Family Physician
I am a local to the area, having grown up on Quadra Island, before moving to Victoria for my undergraduate degree and medical school. I feel incredibly privileged to have had the opportunity to move home for my residency training and to continue working as a full-service family physician, providing clinic, hospital and maternity care in the community. My partner and I spend our free time taking full advantage of the beautiful outdoors, getting away to camp, bike and ski when we can.
